Description:

Monas 4 OFT Tablet contains Montelukast, which is classified as a Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist. It is prescribed to adults and adolescents (aged 15 years or older) for the treatment and prevention of symptoms associated with chronic asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis. It can also be used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterized by inflammation, swelling, and narrowing of the airways. It often leads to symptoms such as wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and coughing. Monas helps in managing and preventing asthma symptoms by reducing airway inflammation and excessive mucus production.

Seasonal allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, occurs when individuals are exposed to allergens like pollen, dust, or animal dander. It results in inflammation of the nasal lining, leading to symptoms such as nasal congestion, repeated sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes. Monas 4 OFT tablets can be effective in treating and preventing these symptoms.

It is important to note that Monas 4 OFT Tablet is not designed to provide immediate relief during an ongoing asthma attack. It is primarily used for preventive purposes. It is advisable to always carry a rescue inhaler or other appropriate medication to alleviate acute symptoms during an asthma attack.

Quick Suggestions:
Indication

Montelukast is used to prevent sneezing and runny nose due to allergies.

Pharmacology

Montelukast is a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist that specifically inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1). It works by blocking the action of cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4), which are products of arachidonic acid metabolism and are released from various cells, including mast cells and eosinophils.

Cysteinyl leukotrienes and their interaction with leukotriene receptors have been implicated in the pathophysiology of asthma and allergic rhinitis. They contribute to the inflammatory process by causing airway edema (swelling), smooth muscle contraction, and altered cellular activity, all of which are associated with the signs and symptoms of asthma.

By inhibiting the CysLT1 receptor, montelukast helps to prevent or reduce airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the airways), and other processes involved in asthma and allergic rhinitis. It is commonly used as a maintenance therapy to manage these conditions and improve symptoms.

It is important to note that while montelukast is effective for many individuals, its specific role in treatment should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the individual's condition and response to therapy.
